§ Dictionary
Custom dictionary
A per-language vocabulary list of names, places, projects, and domain terms. Dictionary entries help speech-to-text spell things correctly and ground Polish-stage substitutions. Distinct from replacement rules and snippets.
Who this is for
Anyone with proper nouns, jargon, or non-English terms that the default STT model gets wrong. Researchers, lawyers, developers naming products and libraries.
Dictionary vs replacements vs snippets
These three concepts overlap, so the distinction matters:
A vocabulary term, added in Settings › Dictionary › Vocabulary, teaches Dettivo a proper noun. "Dettivo", "WhisperKit", your co-founder's name. The STT model receives the term as a hint; the Polish stage uses it to ground spelling.
A replacement rule, Settings › Dictionary › Replacements, is a deterministic "when heard X, write Y" mapping. "Quote unquote" → empty. "Dot com" → ".com". Applied during Polish.
A snippet, Settings › General › Snippets, is a trigger-to-expansion rule for shorthand. "Sig" → your full email signature. Different concept, different surface.
