§ Permissions
The five permissions Dettivo can ask for
Microphone, Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Screen & System Audio Recording, and Calendar. Dettivo asks only for what the feature at hand needs. Every one is reversible from System Settings.
Who this is for
New users running through onboarding, and anyone diagnosing a feature that says "permission required" or quietly falls back to a worse mode.
Permissions reference
Each row below shows the macOS pane that owns the permission and what Dettivo loses without it.
System Settings › Privacy & Security
- Microphone
- Required for every dictation and meeting capture. Without it, the menu bar shows a red "permissions required" pill.
- Accessibility
- Used for two things: typing the transcript into the focused app, and reading the active selection for Enhanced context. Without it, Dettivo falls back to clipboard paste and Enhanced loses selection context.
- Input Monitoring
- Required for global hotkeys. Without it, Push-to-Talk, Toggle Dictation, Quick Access, and every other hotkey is dead.
- Screen & System Audio Recording
- Required for the ScreenCaptureKit fallback path for meetings, and required if you turn on optional window screenshot context for Enhanced. Some Macs require it for the Core Audio tap path as well.
- Full Disk Access
- Not required. Dettivo never asks. The app only reads/writes its own Application Support and the security-scoped bookmarks you grant.
- Calendar (EventKit)
- Optional. Powers the "upcoming meeting" prompt and seeds capture sessions with attendees + agenda. Local-only — events never leave your Mac.
How to grant a missing permission
Settings › Permissions shows the live state for every permission. Each row has an Open Settings button that deep-links to the exact System Settings pane. After granting, click Refresh Status — most permissions take effect immediately. Input Monitoring is the exception: macOS requires you to fully relaunch Dettivo before it picks the change up.
