Obsidian voice notes with Dettivo

Point Dettivo Quick Note at your Obsidian vault folder. Pick a profile — Standalone, Inbox, or Daily — and press the Capture Note hotkey anywhere on your Mac. The note lands directly in your vault as markdown.

Who this is for

Obsidian users with a personal knowledge management practice who want to add to the vault by voice instead of opening Obsidian first.

Wire Quick Note into your vault

  1. 01

    Open Settings › Notes

    Find Default Destination.

    Settings › Notes

  2. 02

    Choose your vault folder

macOS prompts for security-scoped access. Dettivo remembers the bookmark across relaunches.

  3. 03

    Pick a profile

Standalone (unique timestamped file), Inbox (append to Inbox/), Daily (append to Daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md).

  4. 04

    Toggle front matter (optional)

Adds created, tags, source app, mode as YAML.

  5. 05

    Set Default tags

    Comma-separated. Per-profile.

  6. 06

    Bind the hotkey

Settings › Hotkeys → Capture Note. Default ⌘⇧N.

Two profiles worth setting up

Inbox append is great for triage — you accumulate quick thoughts in Inbox/, then process them weekly. Daily append works well for journaling — every dictation lands in today's daily note under your chosen heading.
