§ Troubleshooting

License activation failed

Three common causes: network reach to the licensing server, the wrong key (typo, leading whitespace), or hitting the three-device cap. The failure-class row in Settings › License + Updates names the cause.

Who this is for

New users whose Save + Validate returned an error, and existing users whose Refresh Auth Token started failing.

Fix path

  1. 01

    Re-copy the key

    Open the purchase email, triple-click the key, copy clean. Watch for leading or trailing whitespace.

  2. 02

    Save + Validate again

    Click Save + Validate. If it succeeds, the device counts active.

  3. 03

    Read the failure class

    On failure, Settings shows a failure class / code / time. Common classes: NetworkUnreachable, KeyInvalid, DeviceLimitReached, ServerError.

  4. 04

    For DeviceLimitReached

    Revoke a device. Settings › License + Updates → Devices → Revoke on the old Mac. Or use dettivo.com/help/devices.

  5. 05

    For NetworkUnreachable

    Check your internet, retry. Activation only needs a single successful round-trip; offline use is fine after that.
